Mwawi Agnes Ng’oma – Program Manager for Saint John of God Hospitaller Services, Lilongwe

Mwawi is a Program Manager for Saint John of God Hospitaller Services, Lilongwe. She joined Saint John of God Hospitaller Services on 5th January, 1998 after obtaining a Diploma in General Nursing from Kamuzu College of Nursing, University of Malawi in 1997 and a certificate in Midwifery at the same university in 1998. She proceeded to work as a general nurse before studying for an advanced diploma in mental health nursing at University of Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa in 2000. She became a state registered psychiatric nurse in 2001 and worked for 3 years as a Team Leader/Nurse Manager for The House of Hospitality, a psychiatric unit. She obtained a Master’s Degree in nursing specializing in mental health at University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa in 2006 and was later redeployed to Saint John of God  College of Health Sciences. She worked as a lecturer in mental health nursing and later Coordinator of Academic Programmmes in the same College for 8 years. In September, 2013 she was promoted to be a Programme Manager for Saint John of God Hospitaller Services, Mzuzu responsible for 10 programmes. Mwawi was later redeployed to Saint John of God Hospitaller Services, Lilongwe to set up a new residential services in 2016. She is responsible for development and management of the Service’s programs in line with the Orders policies and procedures and she provides Leadership to all programmes in Lilongwe.

Mwawi is currently studying for her PhD in Public Mental Health under The African Mental Health Research Initiative (AMARI). She is registered with University of Malawi, College of Medicine and her area of focus is Perinatal Depression.
