Social Worker Role
Reporting to the Umoza Project Coordinator, the Social Worker will be responsible for providing psychosocial support to individuals, families, and communities facing social, emotional, and health-related challenges. The role involves assessing client needs, developing care and support plans, offering counselling, linking clients to resources, and advocating for vulnerable groups to promote wellbeing and resilience.
Responsibilities (which include, but are not limited to):
- Assessing the social, emotional, and practical needs of clients through interviews, home visits, and case reviews.
- Providing counselling and support to individuals, families, and groups to help them cope with trauma, illness, poverty, abuse, or other challenges.
- Developing and implementing individualized care and support plans.
- Advocating for the rights and welfare of vulnerable populations, including children, the elderly, people with disabilities, and patients.
- Work collaboratively with healthcare providers, educators, legal officers, and community leaders.
- Maintaining accurate case records, reports, and documentation in line with professional standards.
- Conducting community outreach, awareness campaigns, and support groups when required.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work
- At least 3 years of experience in social work, counselling, or community development
- Registered/licensed by a relevant professional body (where applicable)
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and counselling skills
- Ability to work with vulnerable populations with empathy, respect, and cultural sensitivity
- Excellent report writing, record-keeping, and case management skills
- Strong problem-solving and advocacy skills
- High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism
- Willingness to work with mentally sick individuals and their families
- Strict adherence to Saint John of God Child and Vulnerable Adult Protection Policy
