Project Officer (2 Positions – Mzuzu and Lilongwe)

About Us.

St John of God Hospitaller Services [SJOG] is a faith-based charitable organization established in Malawi in 1994 to contribute to the development of Health for all by providing both residential and community-based mental health promotion and care, maternal mental health and child & adolescent psychiatry programs. SJOG Malawi also delivers early intervention programs, inclusive education and community-based rehabilitation for children with disabilities.  It works in partnership with the Government of Malawi, partner organizations, the community and individual families, to provide quality mental health care and disability inclusion services which are accessible, sustainable and comprehensive. SJOG has program interventions in the areas of older persons; street-connected children, psychosocial counselling support, addiction recovery and self-help group approach for women empowerment. SJOG operates a University of Health Sciences offering tertiary level training for psychiatric nurses, psychiatric clinicians, psycho-social counsellors and general nurses. 

St John of God in preparation for a potential grant funding from KinderNotHilfe and BMZ of Germany seeks to recruit the following positions for its four-year Maternal Mental Health project in Lilongwe and Mzimba districts.

Project Officer Role

Reporting to the Project Coordinator, the Project Officer will be responsible for planning and implementing project activities, monitoring performance using MEAL tools, conducting evaluations, ensuring stakeholder engagement, facilitating trainings, and preparing reports to support continuous improvement and alignment with reproductive health standards.

Responsibilities (which include, but are not limited to);

  • Develop the scope of work according to the financial standards of the project
  • Develop daily activity plans and carry out implementation of project activities, ensuring alignment with Reproductive Health standards.
  • Track project performance using the Maternal Mental Health Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) tools and ensure timely reporting.
  • Support baseline, midline, and endline evaluations.
  • Collect and analyse data to assess project impact and recommend improvements.
  • Conduct regular field visits to monitor project activities and provide technical support.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with target groups, local administration and relevant authorities and other project stakeholders
  • Maintain regular communication with project stakeholders.
  • Facilitate training workshops, learning events, and coordination meetings.
  • Prepare high-quality narrative and financial reports

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Psychiatric Nursing, Community Nursing, Mental Health, Reproductive / Public Health or related field.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years experience in a similar role in the NGO sector.
  • Strict Adherence to the Child and Vulnerable Adult Protection Policy.
